Katsouli Cheese Factory

 

In the heart of Argolis, in the small and picturesque village of Koliaki Tracheia, is the family-run Katsouli Cheese Factory, which has earned its place among the 50 best cheese factory destinations in Greece. Since 1989, the Katsoulis family has been producing high quality cheese products, continuing a long tradition started by Vassilis Katsoulis and now continued by his children, Thomas and Garyfallia Katsoulis.

The Katsouli Cheese Company started with the production of traditional Feta and gradually expanded its range of products to include Graviera, Kefalotyri, Myzithra, Anthotiro and the special Mastichoto. Mastichoto is a small production cheese similar to Halloumi in terms of consistency and texture. It is produced like all the cheeses of the cheese factory exclusively from local sheep and goat milk and is available in selected restaurants and delicatessens.

Vassilis Katsoulis founded the cheese factory with the aim of producing excellent quality Feta. With the passage of time and the participation of his children, Thomas and Garifalias, the business expanded and evolved. The high quality and exquisite taste of Katsoulis Cheese products have won the favor of consumers and have gathered the attention of the press. The cheeses are produced from local goat and sheep milk, respecting traditional methods and using modern facilities.

Garifalia Katsouli declares: "Our life is the cheese factory, with its difficulties! We try to follow the developments and that is why we made a new installation. There are indeed some jobs that are heavy, but there is also room for women in cheesemaking.”

The cheese factory works with local small producers, processing around 1,000-1,300 kg of milk per day. The cheese factory's products are available in two locations in Athens, in Koukaki and Kypseli, with the aim of further increasing the number of points of sale.
